why not use this top damper with vented gas logs? I need something that is weather (water) proof on the top of chimney. This would serve very well to seal out rain and to open and vent the gas logs when used.
A. Many building codes require dampers to be permanently blocked open or removed completely when vented gas logs are installed. If this is not done, carbon monoxide cannot escape out the chimney. With wood fires, you know quickly that a damper is closed because of smoke buildup. This does not happen with gas logs.
