FAQ - Venting Pipe Checklist
Vertical Checklist
Although the part numbers vary from manufacturer to manufacturer the components stay the same. Reference the list below to ensure you have the correct pieces for your installation.
Through-Ceiling Installation:
- Ceiling Adapter: used in first room - adapter for ceiling support box
- Ceiling Support Box: passes through first ceiling - requires adapter to connect
- Attic Shield: passes through attic space - required to give insulation clearance
- Firestop: passes through second floor - adds clearance and stability
- Roof Flashing: used above the roof - seals home from moisture
- Storm Collar: used above the roof, on flashing - seals flashing from moisture
- Roof Brace: used above the roof - adds horizontal support
- Vertical Cap: final piece - stops sparks/flash from igniting roof
The following components are optional:
- Elbow Strap: used in any offset to support pipe between elbows
- Elbow: used in combination with rigid pipe to bypass offsets
- Adjustable Roof Support: used in cathedral ceilings to provide support when transitioning
Horizontal Checklist
Although the part numbers vary from manufacturer to manufacturer the components stay the same. Reference the list below to ensure you have the correct pieces for your installation.
Through-Wall Installation:
- Stove Dapter: used on appliance flue collar - connects pope to appliance
- Wall thimble: used to pass through walls - provides mandatory clearance to joists
- Tee Support Bracket: used outside of wall - provides vertical support
- Tee: used outside of wall - provides horizontal to vertical transition and external cleaning access
The following components are optional:
- Elbow Strap: used in any offset to support pipe between elbows
- Elbow: used in combination with rigid pipe to bypass offsets
- Adjustable Roof Support: used in cathedral ceilings to provide support when transitioning
- Horizontal Cap: used outside wall as termination (pellet vent and direct-vent only)
